Reading with friends

On Mondays S2\3N and S2D  read to each other.

We used dice to make up questions.
1. Can you describe each character and what they are doing?
2. What is the picture in your mind?
3. What is the problem?
4. How do you know...?
5. Pick a difficult word and a interesting word and find the meaning.
6. If you were in the story what would you hear and see?

How the birds got their colours

All of the year 4 students in S2/3N picked a history project to do. We were focusing on Dreamtime stories. We ended up doing 'How the birds got their colours'. We drew pictures based on the story and put it into an iMovie, and this is how  it turned out down below.

Boomerang Creation

In term two Matthew,Lincoln and Samuel built a cross boomerang.
It comes from the Cairns area and Aboriginals used it to kill prey.
We used a type of string called rafia, cardboard and to design it we used oil pastels. Samuel was our camera man and Matthew and Lincoln were the creators of the boomerang. We tested the boomerang out and it successfully came back when we threw it.

History projects

This term year 4 are learning about the first fleet and the convicts, crimes and punishments. Most of the boys in year 4 in our class have made a greenscreen video. They researched the details of real children back in the 1700's. Holly, Keira and Bailey are making the Sirius, which is a boat from the first fleet. Latesha, Angela and Matilda are trying to remake a letter from the 1700's.

This term year 5 are researching the Eureka Stockade. We have been making gold licences, the southern cross flag, a gold panning cradle and Bella has been learning the Eureka Oath in front of our greenscreen. For the flag we used an old potato sack. The cradle is made out of cardboard and LOTS of sticky tape.

Our Endeavour puzzle artwork

We painted the Endeavour on sheets of paper to form a puzzle. It is going to go on the back wall of our classroom. The Endeavour is the ship that Captain cook sailed on. We each got one piece of  the picture to paint but some people did three or four.

Lorgnettes

On Thursday 4th May S2-3N made Lorgnettes. In Term 2 we are reading a book called The Goat Who Sailed The World and we encountered a word that we haven't seen before. Lorgnettes are spectacles with a stick. We made our own lorgnettes out of two pipe cleaners. Lorgnettes were worn by rich people in the 1760's. We know this because in the book that we're reading it said what year it was.
